Pre requisites:
You must be at least 15 years old, certified as a PADI Advanced or Advanced Plus Diver and have current first aid or equivalent CPR training, within the past three years.
If you do not hold either of these certifications, you must prove equivalent competency, equivalency, in this case would be 20 logged dives documenting experience in the areas of Deep, Night and Under Water Navigation.
Overview
The PADI Rescue Diver Course is divided into three sessions : academic training , confined - water training and open water training.
Academic training covers the following topics, self rescue, diver stress, diving first aid and CPR, emergency management, equipment considerations
Confined water training takes place in an indoor swimming pool and will cover the following rescue scenarios:
- Tired diver.
- Panic diver.
- Response from shore/boat (conscious victim).
- Distressed diver under water.
- Missing diver.
- Surfacing the unconscious diver.
- Unconscious diver at the surface.
- Egress with unconscious diver .
- First aid for pressure related injuries.
- Response from shore or boat unconscious victim.
- Diving accident scenario one, under water search.
- Diving accident scenario two, response, egress and management.
Open Water Training allows you to demonstrate your mastery of these skills and practice them in a typical diving situation. The open - water dives allow you to apply what you have learned during the knowledge development and skills development segments at an actual dive site.
Course Schedule
Academic Training takes place in Peacehaven near Brighton, or at another convenient location. The academic sessions are divided into modules. At the end of each, is a multi choice mini quiz and a knowledge review, both of which have to be completed before proceeding to the next module.
Confined Training takes place at one of many pools in the Surrey & Sussex area. These are also divided into 12 scenarios (as listed above).
Open Water dives are conducted over a weekend or the minimum of 2 days consisting of 4 dives, 2 per day. The open water dives are normally conducted at inland sites or weather permitting on the south coast or Brighton.
